region and have also guided on Meru, Oldonyo Lengai, Mount Kenya, and on
walking safaris in the Usambara and Pare Mountains . Some of my special
achievements have been guiding two groups of blind people on Kili', taking
a paraplegic , with artificial legs, up the Western Breach route, and
guiding people of many different ages successfully.

If you need a very experienced tour operator on any of the East African

Glad that you enjoyed the post on my 1994 Kilimanjaro hike. I will try to fill in the blanks some day: the text is somewhat fragmented as it is the first text I ever wrote online back in the mid-nineties.

My stay at Babylon Lodge was the setting for my first "real" adventure and it will always have a special place in my heart, therefore it greatly pleases me to learn that Babylon Lodge is still alive and kicking! You didn't mention anything about the menu though - was it still chicken only with a selection of potatoes or rice?

it is an interesting article especialy when u were forced to pay some amount to be shown your way to Babylon Lodge. I also went to the same lodge a few months ago but the situation was very different. The place has been greatly improved and it has become one of the leading hotels in Marangu. It had a good number of staff and they were all eager to make the customers comfortable. Infact I have not experienced such hospitality anywhere alse in Africa. Their good rooms and beautiful gardes will always be a sight to admire in my album. They also organised for me a mountain climb and I was impresed with their guide.
If this was the situation back then I can say Babylon Lodge has made it through the dark times and it has made a name for itself. It is not only a beautiful lodge with good services but also with affordable prices. They have also changed their website which is now www.babylonlodge.net
