  • Prague: One day of PSI and spring

    Acting upon an invite from friends and colleagues Olga and Rob of MDR partners I decided to make a detour to Prague for one day. The occasion was a workshop on the PSI directive and its consequence for reuse and creation of value added services in the private sector (or at least outside its original scope),

    The workshop was interesting showing a wide variety of differing oppinions on what is the problem, what is the solution and even if there in fact was a problem at all!

    Possibly even more interesting was finding myself in the spring sun of Prague on the banks of Moldau just by the Charles bridge in excellent company. Prague is the place to drink beer and so we drank beer it is also the place to eat big meat and so we ate big meat.

    Prague is really only a hop away from Oslo, 2 hours flight. That is no more than I spend going from Sogndal to Oslo. However, it could be noted that day-trips to Prague aren’t advisable!

  • London: Business and Black Metal

    Vreid, the original norwegian Black MetalDuring Easter week I had to go to London on a meeting to prepare a project proposal for the 7th framework programme. Simultaneously Avinet colleague and Vreid lead singer, Sture, was kicking off a mini-tour to launch their new CD “I Krig”.

    To my deep regret I had never heard Vreid play live before, despite having known Sture for nigh on 10 years! Thus it was that we set off to the famed black metal stage Underworld in Camden, north London.

    It was a great experience although certain elements of the audience caused a chill down my spine! Black metal artists are excellent performers and theatre people, it is the the Cathy Bates’es on the front row you need to look out for!

    Also a distinctively unsympathetic door man with dreadlocks was reluctant to let me and colleague Gunnar Urtegaard into the concert in the first place due to our deviant and non-black appearances.

  • Mor Asgjerd på nett

    Asgjerd Bergheim i ei noko yngre utgåve!Mi kjære mor har teke steget ut på verdsveven i ein alder av sytti-noko. Det er kanskje ikkje så uvanleg i våre dagar men eg vil likevel gratulere ho med framsteget og oppmuntre ho til å halde fram å skrive i bloggen sin. Følgjande er saksa frå bloggen hennar:

    Asgjerd vart hekta på bruk av Internett kring årtusenskiftet. Ho overtok då ein nær ubrukeleg bærbar PC som, på særs gode dagar med lageleg vêr til naud, kunne nyttast til å sende e-post.

    Etter sterkt påtrykk frå ein av dei udugelege og lite hjelpsame sønene sine freistar Asgjerd seg no med eigen blogg på verdsveven. Målestjinga med dette er å finne eit alternativt publikum å lufte frustrasjonar og gleder overfor når avkomet ikkje kan, eller vil, ta telefonen.

  • 3 movies likely to inflict damage on your immortal soul

    After having discussed the topic of “damaging” films with a friend a while ago I came up with three films that I find likely to cause a bad effect on unsuspecting people. These are:

    • Salo or the 120 days of Sodom
    • Sweet Movie
    • Caligula

    I believe the world wouldn’t have been a worse place had these movies never been made.

  • Oppgradering av flysete posthumt!

    British AirwaysEi kvinne på veg frå Delhi til London døydde under flyturen. Flyselskapet, British Airways, var ikkje budde på denne eventualiteten og visste ikkje anna råd enn å oppgradere henne til businessklasse.

    Saka lyder slik:

    The body of a woman in her seventies, who died after the plane left Delhi for Heathrow, was carried by cabin staff from economy to first class, where there was more space. Her body was propped up in a seat, using pillows.

    The womans daughter accompanied the corpse, and spent the rest of the journey wailing in grief.

    Paul Trinder, who awoke to see the body at the end of his row, last week described the journey as “deeply disturbing”, and complained that the airline dismissed his concerns by telling him to get over it.

  • Politicians in Space

    USS Enterprise orbiting a planetEit finsk parlamentsmedlem går inn i valkampen på ein original måte, han har omsett nettstaden sin til Klingon, eit språk som er nytta i den klassiske scifi-serien Star Trek.

    Kanskje får vi i framtida sjå politikarar gå til val på alvespråket til Tolkien. Meir truleg er det vel at dei går vidare med Joyce sin Ulysses stil! Den ligg dei allereie ganske nær opptil!

    Reuters – A Finnish member of parliament is aiming for re-election by campaigning with a translation of his Web site into Klingon, used in the TV series Star Trek.

  • Foreldremøte på Norsk og Italiensk

    For ei tid sidan var det ei sak om at foreldre i bynære strok vest om Oslo hadde for vane å stille med advokat på foreldremøte. I Italia er det enno verre!

    Hjå Reuters kunne ein idag lese om ein familie som hadde take seg bryet med å banke opp ein rektor grunna misn�ye med karaktersetjinga framtidshåpet deira hadde blitt offer for på skulen til den ulykksalige…

    Reuters: An irate Italian family beat up a principal because they were unhappy with the grades a young relative had received and a ban on cell phones at school!

  • Kolonnekøyring og nytt fjernsyn!

    Toshiba Regza 37” LCD TVGrunna dei varme og sterke kjenslene eg nærar til fjernsynsapparatet eg kjøpte i Oslo for ei god veke sidan (men ikkje har fått heim enno) er eg no på veg til Oslo i bil.

    Min gamle far på sytti-eitt-eller-anna har tungt for å akseptere at alderen har kome til han også – og at tida er mogen for å pensjonere seg frå langtransportbransjen.

    Konsekvensen av dette er at han kvar veke køyrer fram og attende til Oslo frå Sandane. Det vil seie, heilt til forrige veke då han la seg heime for å sjå sport for tre veker frametter.

    Dette betydde altså at fjernsynet mitt med alle sine 37 tommar skjermflate vart ståande att hjå mi kjære tante i Oslo.

    No er eg i kolonne på veg austover frå Borlaug over Hemsedalsfjellet.

    Alt dette for ein TV!

  • Brotsverk og Bøtemål

    Ein Sør-Afrikanar vart for ei tid sidan ilagt ein månads fengsel som straff for ikkje å ha sett mobilen sin på ‘lydlaus’ medan han befann seg i eit rettslokale!

    Men sjølv i Sør-Afrika var visst ikkje dette grunn god nok til å fengsle nokon!

    Reuters: A South African sentenced to a month in jail for allowing his cellphone to ring noisily in a courtroom had the sentence overturned on appeal on Friday.

    However, it also says in the mail that I am not supposed to tell anyone just yet… So forget I mentioned it will you…
